The Sedona Dog Park, dog park

"Dogs Rule at the Sedona Dog Park." Q-dog

To date, Sedona has one park dedicated to Sedona Dogs and visiting canine friends. The park, located at the corner of Soldiers Pass Road and Carruth Drive @ 950 Soldiers Pass Road (See Map), was conceived and planned by Sedona residents John Lupo and Rick Wesselhoff and a team of dedicated volunteers in 2004. Sedona Dog Park Inc was founded as a 501c3 non-profit corporation to raise funds to build this essential park on property the City of Sedona owns. Construction included fence, parking lot, shade structure paver walkway and entry areas, canine and human water fountains, info kiosk and more. After several years of fund raising, the park opened in Spring 2007. The facility is not operated by the City of Sedona but by Sedona Dog Park Inc., which holds the lease.

The design of the park was chosen after consulting with managers of most Arizona cities which have dog parks. The unique topography in Sedona and the park size was dictated, so it was important to make the best use of the property. The most important feature needed in Sedona was shade for the summer months and a low maintenance landscaping. Many alternatives were researched before working with Skyline Steel in the valley to design and install the shade structure. Most Arizona dog parks spend the majority of their time, money and upkeep trying to maintain grass in their parks. The decision was made to forego this option to save on water and maintenance dollars and time.

The park welcomes all dogs and has a separate enclosure, Fenway Park, which allows small dogs and older dogs to exercise at their own energy levels away from the larger more active dogs. In addition to the two main free-run areas, there is of course a red rock hiking area for more of a "natural Sedona dog-experience."

In order to maintain a level of cleanliness and safety for humans and the dogs, plenty of clean-up bags are supplied along with fresh water, bowls, shade, and a play pool.

The Sedona Dog Park, dog park is a wonderful place for humans to enjoy letting their dogs exercise and socialize but also to enjoy the company of others who adore their dogs and understand their needs.

"This is a very nice dog park. Seppi loves to play with all the dogs here, he is a shepherd and needs to run. He comes twice a day! I enjoy being here as well amongst all the other dog lovers. " Lydia
